Courtenay Harrup Supercharger A Stage Too Far!

Postby A11VXL » January 30th, 2009, 4:16 pm

We've been playing with a new Harrup HTV Supercharger. This unit is a direct replacement for the LSJ M62 with an output of 1.3L VS the M62's 1.0L litre.
The engine is a 2.2 with Steel Rods, Deleted Balancer Shafts, Modified Head and Cams, 470cc injectors, complete with an awesome 3" 2bular system the Manifold is a 4 into 1 design with 2" primaries- thanks Jim.

Image

359.93 BHP & 287.35 LBS FT. :o :o You can also see that we have not hit peak power, just smacked the limiter set @ 7000rpm!! Yes we were tempted to rev it further but we have maxed the fuel pump, so thought better off it .

Now weve got to turn it all down as our brief for the build was 300bhp !! and we are a little over the spec for the pistons!!! :wtf: Jon

The supercharger alone is about £2,500+ now. £1.5k exhaust, it's not especially cheap :p However, compare it to the cost of getting 300bhp out of an Elise with a supercharged Honda and it's a bargain...

Good job, as I said on the .org a bit too much for an engine with that specs, but definitely promising for any other TVS build in the future :)

what would it take to get the engine strong enough for more? are the parts even avialable?
Does it have the standard size pulley?

great job guys :)

ideally Nick needs some wiseco pistons, then 400 bhp is possible 8)

on a standard z22se engine you would need; eagle steel rods, wiseco pistons, balancer delete, ported head with uprated valves (Nick has saab turbo valves), comp sc cams and a 3" exhaust system

what pistons he have now?
sounds do-able maybe.. I'd have to find a second engine first i think and build it up

I really hope for you the pistons will survive, but at these power it is more a chance factor than anything else.

LSJ guys are killing their stock pistons around 280-300 whp, and they are already much stronger than L61/Z22SE ones (which proved to be fine at ~250 crank on all hitec/Courtenay conversions, so around 220 whp)

+ uprated fuel pump system (with swirl pot), big injectors, ARP head bolts (400 bhp starts to be a lot for OE ones, crank ones should be fine), and ARP flywheel bolts too
(and maybe a ported inlet manifold to keep the TVS in a good pressure ratio area if the head flows)

I'll personally prefer Diamond racing or Je pistons for such a high power level too

don't the standard ones have the wrong compression? or are you still using the head spacer?
